Exam Stress Management

As exam season approaches, we are supporting Year 11’s with practical and therapeutic support. We understand this is a stressful time of year and make sure students are aware of the support and resources available to them. In addition to practical support by way of tuition and revision, we also provide mental health and wellbeing support.

Year 11 were visited by Number 22, a charity organisation providing free and confidential support to adults and young people. During assembly, pupils were given practical tips and advice on how to manage and minimise stress.

Sleep and a regular bedtime routine is essential for stress reduction. Getting enough good quality sleep improves cognitive performance and function and evidence suggests that students who sleep better, perform better, enjoy better grades, better mood and better well-being. A 10 minute exercise break during revision gives your brain a rest and provides it with oxygen.

Although exams are important, they are not the only measure of success or self-worth. It is important to keep this in perspective. Pupils are encouraged to make a list of all the other things they want and can achieve in life.

Pupils were given mindfulness techniques to help them tune into tension and release with breathing or meditation exercises as well as other great tips.

Many people struggle with mental health issues and children or young people are no exception. Mental health may become a concern or exacerbated during times of stress and exams can be a trigger. Pupils have access to support via a range of services.

  • Pupils can approach any member of staff for support and direction to resources.
  • Grove Academy partners with Kooth for mental health provision for all students.
  • Number 22 offer a support line for young people to book a free 25 minute counselling session.
