Strike Action Notification

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am afraid that talks over the weekend aimed at averting the current round of strikes were not successful. I am therefore writing to inform you of the effect that strike action by the National Education Union (NEU) on Thursday 2nd March will have on the school.

We anticipate that a number of teachers will be taking industrial action and so the school will be partially closed on Thursday 2nd February. As a result:

School will be CLOSED on Thursday 2nd March for students in Years 2, 5, 8 and 9.

School will OPEN on Thursday 2nd March for all students in primary.

School will OPEN on Thursday 2nd March for all students in Years 7, 10 and 11.

The school will remain open to children with EHCPs or any other vulnerable groups in Years 8 and 9.

Whilst we cannot instruct staff who are taking industrial action to set work for classes who are not in school, work will be set, where possible, on ClassCharts for students not attending. A normal timetable for all year groups will resume on Friday 3rd March.

In addition to the number of teachers who have indicated that they will be taking industrial action I would also ask you to remember that many of our teachers are parents themselves and will also be affected by this action in their children’s schools. Please be aware that the NEU have also indicated that they will also be asking members to take further strike action on:

• Wednesday 15th March 2023

• Thursday 16th March 2023

We will update you on the year groups that will be affected on these subsequent dates as soon as possible. Currently we anticipate that on Wednesday 15th March school will be closed only to students in Year. 7 and 8. We also currently anticipate that on Thursday 16th March school will be closed only to students in Year 7 and 9. We endeavour to remain open throughout strike days for students in primary phase and students undertaking their GCSEs.

Yours sincerely

Natalie Wismayer
